How to Become a PPWSL Softball Player

Tryouts

Tryouts for the league are held each spring in March (specific dates will be posted on the home page announcements in mid-February). To try out for the league, come to one of the dates posted and bring a glove with you. You will be expected to demonstrate your ability to bat, field and throw. You will be ranked for each skill and will receive a score that will determine your overall level of ability (beginner, low intermediate, middle intermediate, high intermediate or advanced).

Because the PPWSL is instructional, you will be placed on a team according to your ranking as well as according to what openings there are on the teams for players of your rank. First priority is given to people who tried out for the previous season but were not placed on a team. Once those people have all been placed, those who have tried out for the upcoming season will have their names drawn randomly, by rank, until all the teams' rosters are filled.

You will be notified as early as mid-April as to whether you have been selected to be on a team. If you are not contacted at that time, do not despair. As the season gets under way, people inevitably drop out due to schedule conflicts or other reasons. You can be contacted about joining a teamduring the first 9 weeks of the season, or up to July 2 in 2007, when rosters close for the year. If you do not get on a team the season you try out, you will be given priority for the following season.
